Ian Hunter Smith, age 20, passed on April 12, 2018
Ian was born on October 2, 1997 in Norwich Connecticut. Being a Navy brat, he seen many duty stations which moved the family from Connecticut to South Carolina, then Georgia ending in Minnesota. He attended Parkside Elementary, BCMS, and graduated from Buffalo High School in 2016. Ian played football all four years, along with running track and playing tennis. He was a ferocious reader from an early age, reading well beyond his grade level. He also enjoyed music and video games. As a member of the Buffalo United Methodist youth group, Ian served on the mission trips all four years. He loved the trips and serving the people of Kentucky, St. Louis, North Dakota, and Minneapolis. His favorite time was the time spent with his family. Ian loved family vacations, camping, going to the farm and the ocean. Ian was an avid collector of knives and other medieval weapons, including his prized possession of a six foot battle axe. Naming the team, was a no-brainer. It had to incorporate his battle axe, so Ian's Crusaders made for a perfect fit -
we are Battling the Darkness... Fighting 4 Hope.
Losing Ian to this disease called depression is the most horrible thing a parent, sister, finance, grandparent or friend should have to endure. They say hindsight is 20/20, but its not. We never seen this coming. We thought the medication was working. A new job, new friends, a new car (with no cosigner), asked his girlfriend to marry him, and was loved by so many. We beat ourselves up everyday trying to figure out what we missed. How could this have happened?
We know one day we will have our answer, its just living without him until then. We will fight the good fight in hopes that others will not have the same story as ours. We would love for you to join us on team Ian's Crusaders.
